A revenge match in California
Arthur Fils had a score to settle. Weeks after losing to Félix Auger-Aliassime in the Montpellier quarters, he met the Canadian again in the last 16 at the Indian Wells Masters 1000.
This time the stage was different: California sunshine, a far bigger event and, crucially, a Fils determined to flip the script.
Mission accomplished. He won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, after a solid, hard-fought display.

Fils gets off to a perfect start
Right from the first games, Fils set the tone. An early break, ironclad serving, laser focus — he rolled out of the traps.
Auger-Aliassime, despite being ninth in the world, had no answer to the tempo. Fils piled on the winners — 12 winners to just 6 unforced errors in the opening set.
Result: a 38-minute first set, closed out without facing a single break point.

The second set tightened up
The momentum looked set. Fils broke again and pushed to a 6-3, 4-2 lead.
But he was up against a top-10 fighter. Auger-Aliassime lifted his level, turned the aggression back on and clawed his way back into the match.
It all came down to a tense tiebreak.
A tiebreak for the highlight reels
When it mattered most, Fils’ nerve held.
Down 5-0 in the breaker and staring at defeat, he refused to fold. Point by point he fought back, saving five set points along the way.
A spectacular turnaround.
He finally sealed it on his second match point, winning the tiebreak 7-6 and booking his spot after 1h51 of battle.
He’s BACK 💪

A quarter-final to cement his rise
This win sends Arthur Fils into the Indian Wells quarter-finals for the second year running.
It’s proof he’s climbing the ranks on tour. It’ll be his fourth Masters 1000 quarter-final after last year’s runs at Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo.
Next up: either Alexander Zverev or Frances Tiafoe.
Win that and Fils would reach a Masters 1000 semi for the first time in his career.
Back to form after the injuries
This qualification carries weight beyond the scoreboard. Last year a back injury stalled his momentum and kept him sidelined for weeks.
That chapter looks closed.
At Indian Wells, Fils is playing loose, attacking and clearly aiming to take another step up the tour.
