Wembanyama goes nuclear as San Antonio cruise
When Victor Wembanyama flips that switch, the result feels inevitable. On a night he owned from the first whistle, the French giant carried the Spurs to a clear win over the Pistons (121-106) with a ridiculous stat line: 38 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocks.
San Antonio never trailed. From the opening minutes the Spurs set the tempo — hard-nosed defence, smart ball movement and clean shooting. Detroit tried to hang around, but every comeback attempt crashed into the same obstacle. Or rather, the same tower of a man.
Wembanyama.
Between rim protection, outside shooting and constant presence in the paint, the phenomenon ran the show.

A total performance: scoring, boards and rim deterrence
The boxscore says it all: 38 points, 16 rebounds, 5 blocks, shooting 12-of-24, 4-of-10 from deep and 10-of-11 at the line.
But stats only tell half the story.
What stood out was how he did it. Wembanyama dominated every spot on the floor. A three to stretch the defence. A finish at the rim on the next play. Then a thunderous block to kill the opponent’s momentum.

At times Detroit looked like they were playing against an immovable force. Every drive into the lane suddenly felt risky.
And at the other end, Wembanyama kept punishing mistakes.
Spurs untouchable from start to finish
San Antonio grabbed control early. A crisp start, smooth team offense and solid outside shooting let the Spurs open a gap in the first quarter.
The lead even swelled to 17 at one point.
Detroit tried to claw back, but the Spurs always had an answer — a defensive stand, a corner three, or another Wembanyama play to shut a comeback down.
The moment that summed it up came in the fourth. Cade Cunningham attacks, floats for a bucket… blocked by Wembanyama. Seconds later, Wemby sprints the other way and finishes an alley-oop to ignite the crowd.
That sequence summed his night.
Cunningham battled, but the Pistons folded
For Detroit, Cade Cunningham tried to shoulder the load with 26 points and 8 assists. Isaiah Stewart added 18, but the Pistons never flipped the script.
Their night got harder almost immediately when Ausar Thompson exited with an ankle injury after just two minutes.
Despite a few positive stretches, Detroit spent the game chasing the scoreboard.
Against a Wembanyama this dominant, any deficit becomes a mountain.
Spurs gathering steam
With the win the Spurs keep rolling. San Antonio has taken 13 of their last 14 games and are staking a serious claim as one of the West’s most dangerous teams.
De’Aaron Fox matched the moment with 29 points, while rookie Stephon Castle ran the show with 12 assists.
The Texas group is clicking, confidence is high, and at the center of it all is a player who seems to grow a little every night.
Higher stakes, higher Wemby
A week and a half ago Wembanyama already bullied Detroit in their first meeting.
This time he brought an extra gear. Offense that felt punitive, almost personal.
Same opponent. Same result.
Only this time the impression is deeper.
When the intensity rises, when the games mean a bit more… Victor Wembanyama finds ways to take over even more.
