Buffalo breaks out at home
Josh Norris scored twice and Owen Power had three assists as the Buffalo Sabres beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 on Friday. It was a welcome burst for a team that had scored just 15 goals in its previous seven home games, and it leaves Buffalo 4-1-0 in its last five.
Jack Quinn opened the scoring 6:50 into the first period, backhanding his own rebound after Jet Greaves stopped the initial shot. It was his ninth goal of the season. Kent Johnson tied it for Columbus 16 minutes in, but Norris restored the lead at 18:10 by using Quinn as a decoy on the rush and taking the shot himself.

Three goals in the second period decide it
Buffalo outshot Columbus 19-11 in the second and scored three times. Rasmus Dahlin started the run at 4:30 with a point shot through traffic. Norris added his second at 9:46 with some close-range stickhandling, and 67 seconds later Josh Doan pounced on a loose puck. Columbus challenged the goal for goaltender interference, but it stood.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 24 of 26 shots for his fifth win in 11 games. Greaves made 32 saves on 37 shots for the Blue Jackets, who fell to 1-5-0 on the road. Zach Werenski scored a power-play goal at 18:21 of the third to make it 5-2.
Johnson has 11 points (four goals, seven assists) during a seven-game point streak. Columbus also lost forward Sean Monahan to a lower-body injury after he blocked a shot in the second period, and he did not return. The Blue Jackets went 1-for-3 on the power play while Buffalo was 0-for-4.
