Jets lose their top target
Garrett Wilson will not play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The Jets ruled the wide receiver out on Friday because of a concussion, and it takes away the one player who has driven their passing game all season.
Wilson, 26, leads New York in catches (43), receiving yards (527) and touchdown receptions (three) through eight games, all of them starts. Across his career he has 358 catches for 4,171 yards and 21 touchdowns in 66 games since the Jets took him 10th overall in the 2022 draft out of Ohio State.
The timing hurts. The Jets are 2-6 and on their second three-game losing streak of the year.

Mitchell and Cooper step up
The job now falls to Adonai Mitchell and rookie Omar Cooper Jr. Mitchell set a career high with 142 receiving yards in last Sunday’s 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Cooper caught 11 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns across Weeks 6 and 7.
Offensive coordinator Frank Reich said you cannot replace a player like Wilson, but he sounded unworried about the group left behind. He pointed to the games Mitchell and Cooper have just had and said the plan will change slightly to fit their strengths rather than copy what Wilson does.
What it means on Sunday
A Jets offense that has been trading points with opponents now has to do it without its leading receiver. Mitchell and Cooper have shown they can produce, and Sunday will test whether they can keep doing it with defenses focused on them.
