A tight game that Calgary closed out
Calgary has not needed fireworks against San Jose lately, and Monday night was no exception. The Flames won 2-1 on the road, and the game was settled by a rookie’s first NHL goal.
Adam Klapka opened the scoring late in the first period. He stepped in front of a cross-ice pass, took it into the high slot and fired. San Jose’s Sam Dickinson answered before the midpoint of the game with his first goal of the season, jumping on a chance from his spot at the point.
Then it stayed level until the third. William Stromgren, a 2021 second-round pick playing his fourth NHL game, scored his first big-league goal to restore the lead. Klapka set it up, which gave him his first two-point night of the year. Jonathan Castagna picked up two assists, starting the rush that led to Stromgren’s finish.

Wolf stands tall against his hometown team
The Sharks pushed hard for the equalizer, and Dustin Wolf is the reason they never got it. He made 26 saves and denied several good looks late. Wolf grew up in Gilroy, California, not far from San Jose, in a family with Sharks season tickets. His career record against them is now 11-2-0.
Yaroslav Askarov stopped 20 shots for San Jose, which has one win in its last five games.
The wider picture is lopsided. Calgary has won 10 of its last 11 meetings with the Sharks and 15 of the last 17, a run that goes back to late in the 2021-22 season. The Flames have also won six of their last eight overall.
