A quiet night in San Antonio
The Spurs lost their first two games of the season. Since then, nothing. Monday night they beat the Utah Jazz 119-97 for a fifth straight victory, and it was never really in doubt. San Antonio trailed only in the opening minute, then ripped off an 18-2 run and kept the lead the rest of the way.
Defense did the work. Utah shot 7 of 26 in the first quarter and scored 16 points, its lowest first-quarter output of the season. It was also the first time this year that San Antonio held an opponent under 100 points.
Seven San Antonio players reached double figures. Dylan Harper led the way with 17 points, Stephon Castle added 16 and Keldon Johnson had 15.

Wembanyama off the pace
Two days after his 43-point night against Minnesota, Victor Wembanyama was much quieter. He went 5 of 15 from the floor and 0 of 5 from three. The first half was rough: 6 points on 3-of-11 shooting while Utah crept back to within one, 37-36, in the second quarter.
He turned it around late in the third with two baskets and two blocks in under a minute. Coach Mitch Johnson then took advantage of the cushion and sat him down. Wembanyama played just 24 minutes, his lowest total of the season, and finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks. Over the previous four games he had averaged 28.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.0 blocks.
Not that it mattered. San Antonio is now 5-2 and hosts Dallas on Wednesday, with Zacharie Risacher in the opposing lineup.
