Two minutes to set the tone
Marseille needed one move to get going against Toulouse. Goalkeeper Guillaume Restes played a risky pass, Amine Gouiri won the ball high and shifted it across to Amine Harit, who curled it in with the outside of his right foot. The Vélodrome had barely sat down.
Gouiri added the second on 25 minutes. Igor Paixao headed the ball into his path, the former Rennes forward turned the centre-backs and placed a finish into the small side-netting past Restes. The Toulouse keeper had been at fault on both goals, and his team missed several chances of their own before the break.
That was how the evening ended, 2-0. It is Marseille’s fourth Ligue 1 win in a row, a run that lifts them to sixth. Toulouse drop to eleventh.

De Lange keeps the door shut
The home side did not have an easy second half. Jeffrey De Lange made a string of saves, the best of them a flying one to keep out Jacen Russell-Rowe at the start of the half, and Toulouse had the better of the possession throughout. Casper Tengstedt, the Danish striker who arrived late in the summer window and came in with five goals already, was the main threat.
He thought he had pulled one back on 69 minutes, finishing a Santiago Hidalgo knock-down at the near post, but a check showed him offside and the goal was chalked off. Toulouse had another effort ruled out for offside on 78 minutes. Igor Paixao hit the post for Marseille, but the third goal never came and it did not matter.
A season turning
Marseille had a poor start to the campaign. Bruno Genesio’s side beat Troyes, Angers and Le Havre in the games before this one, and the last of those finished 4-3 after they conceded three in under half an hour. Toulouse had not won at the Vélodrome in Ligue 1 since 2012, and that run is now longer still.
