Lyon end the goal drought
Two defeats, no goals scored. That was the baggage Lyon carried into the Groupama Stadium this afternoon, and Angers did little to make it heavier. The 9th-round fixture, pushed back from Saturday night to a 5:15 pm kick-off, finished 2-0 to the hosts.
Paulo Fonseca had no Loïs Openda and no Pavel Sulc, so Ernest Nuamah led the line. He repaid the gamble in the 38th minute. Abner swung a cross in, Corentin Tolisso nodded it down, and Nuamah killed it with his chest before beating Anthony Lopes with his right foot. Lopes spent 489 games in Lyon colours and was back at his old ground, keeping the score down for most of the evening.
Angers had their moments. Prosper Peter hit the post two minutes before Lyon scored, and a penalty given to Lyon after Athekame went down under Jordan Lefort was taken away on video review, with Lefort judged to have pulled his foot out of the challenge.

Tolisso gets the final word
The captain did the rest. Tolisso had a hand in the opener, then met Nakamura’s corner at the near post in the 87th minute and steered it past Lopes. Lyon finished with 64% of the ball and five shots on target to Angers’ two, and the win extends their run of home victories over Angers in Ligue 1 to eight.
It lifts Lyon into third place on 17 points, level with Paris FC. Angers, who lost heavily to Brest and Marseille in their previous two league games, sit 15th. Haris Belkebla said the match turned on small details in both boxes.
Fonseca’s future hangs over the win
The mood around the result was complicated. CNN Portugal reports that Fonseca is already in talks with another club, with Sporting mentioned in the French press, and he headed down the tunnel in tears after the whistle. Tolisso had walked over to embrace his coach after scoring. Fonseca took charge in January 2025.
