NHL: Coronato’s career night carries Flames past Kraken

Calgary bounces back

Matt Coronato had the first four-point game of his NHL career as the Calgary Flames beat the Seattle Kraken 6-2 on Friday night, answering a shutout loss in their previous outing. Calgary has now won five of its last six.

Joel Farabee had a goal in a three-point night, Morgan Frost and Matvei Gridin each scored and set one up, and Aydar Suniev and Ryan Strome also found the net. Frost opened the scoring on the power play 2:32 in, Gaudreau tied it for Seattle roughly nine minutes later, and then the Flames took over. Suniev, Gridin and Farabee scored inside five minutes of the second period to make it 4-1.

A streak that keeps living

The result kept a remarkable run alive. Calgary has won 61 straight games in which it scores at least four goals, tying the Boston Bruins for the second-longest streak of its kind in league history. Only the New York Rangers, with 65 between 2011 and 2014, have gone further.

Seattle did get one back on the power play. Mackie Samoskevich scored with 1:45 left in the second to cut it to 4-2, but Coronato restored the cushion 39 seconds into the third and Strome sealed it with 1:46 remaining. Dustin Wolf made 21 saves for Calgary. Philipp Grubauer was pulled after allowing four goals on 14 shots, and Joey Daccord stopped 11 of 13 in relief.

Mikael Backlund also passed a milestone with his assist on Farabee’s goal, his 610th career point, which moves him into fifth on the Flames’ all-time list.
