Murray finds his range
Jamal Murray scored 39 points on 7-of-9 three-point shooting as the Denver Nuggets beat the Phoenix Suns 127-120 on Friday night, their sixth straight win over Phoenix. He added eight rebounds and five assists, and 28 of his points came after halftime, 15 of them in the third quarter.
Christian Braun matched him from deep. He hit all six of his first-half attempts and finished with 29 points and a career-high seven threes, the last of them putting Denver up 121-110 with 2:20 left. As a team the Nuggets made 20 of 38 from beyond the arc, 52.6 percent, in their first NBA Cup game and wrapped up a two-game trip unbeaten.
Nikola Jokic had 18 points and 10 assists, three rebounds short of a second straight triple-double. He had collected the 200th regular-season triple-double of his career at New Orleans on Wednesday.

Brooks ejected, Phoenix fades
The game turned ugly in the third quarter. Dillon Brooks, who had 22 points and four threes, was assessed a Flagrant 2 and thrown out with 8:05 left in the period and Denver ahead 84-76. According to the report, he kicked Murray in the groin during a shot attempt.
Phoenix still made a late push. A 7-0 run cut the gap to 123-117 with 35.4 seconds left, but Murray’s two free throws made it 125-117 with 13.4 seconds to play, and that was that.
Miles Bridges led the Suns with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Devin Booker shot 7 of 19 for 20 points on his 30th birthday, and Cam Johnson returned from a three-game absence with a sprained ankle to add 12 points and 10 boards. Phoenix has now lost three of its first four games.
