A quick return for Wesley
Blake Wesley is back with the Los Angeles Clippers twelve days after they let him go. ESPN reported Thursday that the 23-year-old guard signed a 10-day contract under the injury-hardship exception, the mechanism teams use when injuries leave them short of healthy bodies.
Wesley had joined the Clippers on an Exhibit 10 deal on Sept. 27 and was waived on Oct. 17 when the roster was trimmed. The need became obvious within days. Six Clippers sat out Wednesday’s 103-87 loss to the Lakers, among them guards Bradley Beal, Jordan Miller and Max Strus.

Turnovers add to the problem
Injuries are only part of it. Los Angeles committed 24 more turnovers than the Lakers in that game, and Darius Garland alone gave it away five times in 26 minutes. Coach Tyronn Lue said Garland, the team’s leading scorer, played through back tightness.
The Clippers lead the league at 23.5 turnovers per game, three more than the next-closest team. A ball handler who can simply keep possessions clean has real value for a roster this thin.
What Wesley brings
Wesley was the 25th pick of the 2022 draft, selected by San Antonio. He spent three seasons with the Spurs and last year played for Portland. Across four seasons he has appeared in 187 games with four starts, averaging 4.4 points, 2.4 assists and 1.1 turnovers per game. The numbers are modest, but the turnover rate is the kind of figure the Clippers badly need.
