Ligue 1: Lens striker Édouard out two months after surgery

Surgery after months of pain

Lens have lost their centre-forward for the rest of the calendar year. Odsonne Édouard was operated on this morning for an adductor problem that has dragged on since the summer, and the club says the procedure went well. He will be out for about two months, which, as L’Équipe points out, likely ends his 2026.

The trouble started in the last friendly of the preseason, against Sunderland. The pain never went away. He missed Saturday’s 2-1 win over Paris FC, and in hindsight that absence was the first sign that an operation was coming.

Derby without options up front

The timing is awkward. Lens travel to Lille on Friday night for the northern derby, kick-off 9:05pm local time, and Édouard is not the only attacker missing. Abdallah Sima has a thigh injury and is not expected back before the end of November.

That leaves Franjo Ivanovic, Thorgan Hazard, Florian Thauvin and Florian Sotoca as the main attacking options for the staff. Édouard, trained at Paris Saint-Germain, had hoped for a steadier run after a previous season in which he was an important weapon for the Sang et Or.
