NFL: Patriots part ways with punter Bryce Baringer

A sixth-round pick goes

The New England Patriots are releasing punter Bryce Baringer, multiple outlets reported Monday. Baringer, 27, has been on injured reserve since the start of the season and was reportedly ready to come back. Terms of the move were not part of the reports.

New England drafted him in the sixth round in 2023. From 2023 through 2025 he averaged 47.9 yards per punt, 41.0 net, numbers that made him a fixture on special teams for three seasons.

Wishnowsky holds the job

Mitch Wishnowsky, 34, is expected to keep punting. Through seven games he is averaging 47.1 yards per punt with a 41.2 net, a net figure that sits slightly above Baringer’s three-year mark. That is the practical reason the Patriots, now 4-3, did not need to open a roster spot for a returning specialist.
