Seven lost finals, then Lyon
Lorenzo Musetti had waited four years to lift a trophy again. On Sunday at the ATP 250 in Lyon he finally did, beating Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4 after losing seven straight finals.
The match was decided early in each set. Fritz dropped serve in the opening game of the first set and again at the start of the second, and he never recovered either deficit.

Fritz never sees a break point
The American failed to earn a single break point on Musetti’s serve. Only once, in the second set, did he drag the Italian to deuce on his own service game. Fritz also gave away too much, with 27 unforced errors against 11 for his opponent.
Musetti’s route to the final was not easy. On Saturday he had to get past a stubborn Luca Van Assche in the semi-finals, while Fritz had beaten fellow American Tommy Paul.
First title since 2022
Ranked 26th, Musetti collects the third title of his career. The first two came in 2022, at the ATP 500 in Hamburg and the ATP 250 in Naples. Since then he has built a reputation as a gifted player who stalls at the last hurdle, and Lyon removes that tag for now. The question is whether the breakthrough lands at the right moment, with the indoor swing coming up.
