“Stable,” but no timeline
Vincent Kompany is in a stable condition and will be away from Bayern Munich for several weeks, sporting director Max Eberl said at his press conference on Saturday. The coach collapsed on the training pitch on Friday and was taken by ambulance to a clinic in Munich. Eberl said he will stay there for a few more days while doctors run every test they need.
The club is not putting a date on a return. Eberl said Bayern first have to establish what happened, then work out what it means for recovery. He insisted the talk should be of weeks, not days, and added that football is not the most important thing in life, with health coming first.

A virus, a return to the bench, then Friday
Kompany had been struck by a virus the week before and missed several days with the squad. He was back on the bench for Wednesday’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Arsenal, and later admitted he had not listened to his body enough. On Friday he stayed behind after the first team had finished preparing for the trip to Freiburg to watch the reserve session, run by former Brazil international Dante. That is where he went down, and the club said he was admitted for in-depth examinations.
The timing is awkward. Bayern travel to Freiburg on Sunday for a top-of-the-table meeting, with the leaders on 14 points and the hosts third on 13. A spell of a few weeks would also cover the Champions League game at Atletico Madrid on November 3.
