Collapse at the training ground
Vincent Kompany left Bayern Munich’s training centre in an ambulance on Friday. German outlets including Bild and Sky Sports report that the Bayern head coach collapsed right after running the session. A helicopter had landed at the site a little earlier.
Nothing else has come out yet about his condition. The 40-year-old Belgian had been weakened by a viral infection picked up last week, according to RMC Sport, and the timeline lines up with what happened in midweek.

A week of warning signs
Kompany missed training on Monday and Tuesday. His assistant Aaron Danks stood in at the pre-match press conference before the Champions League game against Arsenal, saying the priority was rest. Kompany still took his place on the bench at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday for the 2-2 draw and kept his media duties short.
Afterwards he was frank about it. He admitted he had been caught by a nasty virus, had not listened to his body, and that his body eventually told him to stop.
What it means for Sunday
Bayern lead the Bundesliga and travel to Freiburg on Sunday, with kick-off at 5:30pm in Germany. Freiburg sit third in the table. Whether Kompany can be on the touchline, or whether Danks takes charge, depends on news the club has yet to give.
