Boxing gloves in a ring ahead of Fury vs Joshua in Cardiff

Boxing: Fury-Joshua ring walk may come at 1 a.m.

A request to stretch the night to 3 a.m.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua might not walk to the ring until 1 a.m. A request filed in Cardiff asks for the heavyweight showdown to run deep into the early hours of December 12 at the Principality Stadium.

Cardiff normally requires boxing and wrestling events to finish by 1 a.m. The application wants that limit moved to 3 a.m., with the stadium staying open until 3:30 a.m. A separate request would allow alcohol to be served into the early morning.

The timing is built around the American audience. A 1 a.m. ring walk in Wales lands at 8 p.m. on the East Coast on December 11 and 5 p.m. on the West Coast. Netflix will carry the fight, announced in September.

Cardiff was the compromise

The 74,000-seat home of Welsh rugby was not the first choice. According to The Athletic, Dublin, Las Vegas and New York were all considered before Cardiff emerged as the middle ground between the two camps.

Fury, 38, comes from Manchester. Joshua, 36, is from Watford. The bout has been talked about for close to a decade.

Council has until November 3

Nothing is approved yet. Elected officials and members of the public can submit opinions on the time extension to Cardiff Council until November 3. If the request is waved through, the main event could finish close to dawn. If it is refused, promoters will have to move the schedule forward or rethink the broadcast window.
