NHL: Canadiens send Struble to Predators for a 2nd-round pick

Montreal moves a depth defenseman

Jayden Struble is leaving Montreal. The Canadiens traded the 25-year-old defenseman to the Nashville Predators on Saturday in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.

The move follows a quiet start for him. Struble played three games for the Canadiens this season, averaged a career-low 12 minutes a night and did not record a point.

A physical blueliner with a short résumé

Struble debuted with Montreal in 2023 and has 35 points in 174 NHL games since. He is in the second year of a two-year contract signed in July 2025, so Nashville gets a defenseman who will need a new deal soon.

Predators general manager Chris MacFarland pointed to Struble’s physical style and his mobility. Those are the traits Nashville is paying for, and a second-round pick is a real price for a player who was sliding down the Canadiens’ lineup.
