A trade that shakes the league
It’s one of the first big moves of this WNBA offseason, and it’s already got people talking. Angel Reese is leaving the Chicago Sky to join the Atlanta Dream in a deal involving two first-round picks (2027 and 2028).
This is no throwaway trade for the women’s league in North America. Reese is one of the sport’s fastest-rising names. A two-time All-Star, she heads for a fresh start after two rough seasons on the team front in Chicago.
And it also sets the tone for what looks like a wild offseason, with a record number of players set to hit the market.

A split that felt inevitable
Angel Reese’s exit didn’t come out of nowhere. For months, the tension with the Chicago Sky had been hard to miss, especially after the player openly criticised the organisation.
With the results flat and the mood getting worse, Reese looked ready to move on. So the trade makes sense for both sides. The franchise gets a reset. The player gets out.
Chicago, meanwhile, lands two useful draft picks and turns its attention to the future, with a possible rebuild now on the table.
Atlanta makes a statement and aims higher
With this move, the Atlanta Dream have made their point: they want to be in the mix.
Already well placed last season, Atlanta has added a dominant presence in the paint, someone who can swing both ends of the floor. Angel Reese brings scoring, rebounding, energy and a nasty competitive edge.
If it clicks quickly, the Dream could take another step and start looking like genuine title contenders.
A new level for Reese
This trade could be a major turning point in Angel Reese’s career.
After two seasons stuck in a struggling side, she’s finally heading into a tougher, more ambitious environment. It’s a proper chance to back up her status as a rising star and grow into a leader at a club that expects more.
In Atlanta, she’ll have the chance to chase the playoffs and play in high-pressure games, the sort that actually push a player on.

A calculated gamble for Chicago
For the Chicago Sky, it may look risky in the short term, but it fits a rebuild.
Getting two first-round picks gives the franchise something to work with down the line, even if the real value of those selections will depend on how Atlanta performs in the years ahead.
If the Dream turn into a powerhouse, those picks could end up late in the first round and lose some bite. But Chicago is betting on a different way to build.
An offseason that could get messy
This trade may only be the start of a hectic summer in the WNBA. With so many players available, teams are expected to keep moving and keep talking as they try to improve their rosters.
Angel Reese’s move could even set off a chain reaction, forcing other teams to speed up their own business.
A new chapter begins
For Angel Reese, this is the start of something new.
More ambitious than ever, she joins a team on the rise, with a clear aim: take the next step, as a unit and as a player. If it goes to plan, this trade could end up being one of the big turning points of the next WNBA season.
One thing’s certain: all eyes are on Atlanta now.
