Tunisia – Uganda: a serious first test for the Carthage Eagles
Tunisia kick off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday against Uganda at the annex pitch of the Prince Abdellah Sports Complex. The North Africans come in with clear ambition — they know their status and they know how dangerous openers can be.
Tunisia: a favourite set to be tested
Counted among Africa’s most experienced teams, Tunisia start this tournament with one goal: fight for the top spots. Winners once — 2004 at home — the Carthage Eagles have been hunting that summit ever since.
Their qualifying run for this AFCON was messy, finishing second behind Comoros, but recent World Cup qualifying form has given the project some credibility. Sami Trabelsi’s men looked solid, disciplined and efficient.
That run shouldn’t hide obvious cracks. A defence that used to be watertight has started leaking goals, so they’ll need to be on guard from the first whistle.
Burned by an early exit last time, Tunisia know a false start can wreck the rest of their campaign.
Uganda: a no‑pressure chance to make a mark
Uganda arrive in Morocco as proud outsiders. Few expect them to go far, but Paul Put’s side want to use this opener to spring a surprise and build a competitive run.
Historically the Cranes haven’t been a heavyweight at AFCON. Their last notable run dates back to 1978, when they reached the final. Since then their appearances have left little mark, apart from a last‑16 in 2019.
Head‑to‑heads don’t favour Uganda either — they lost recent meetings with Tunisia. Still, a pressure‑free side can be dangerous in an opener.
Veterans like Denis Onyango in goal and Allan Okello in midfield will be crucial to keep the balance and cash in on any chance.
Probable line‑ups
Tunisia : Dahmen, Meriah, Bronn, Valery, Talbi, Abdi, Sassi, Gharbi, Ouanes, Saad, Mastouri
Uganda : Onyango, Sibbick, Mukundane, Obita, Herbert, Semakula, Aucho, Lorenzen, Ikpeazu, Okello, Mukwala
Key things to know before kick-off

Football Prediction Tunisia vs Uganda
Tunisia to win
They don’t need to dazzle — Tunisia look built to handle this opener. Experience, team shape and individual quality should be enough to win and get the campaign rolling.
First, a word about our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. We share an opinion, a snapshot read, not a guarantee. Sport is unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the script flips.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no risk‑free bet. Even when it seems “obvious”, it rarely is. Yes, that means you can lose. It’s inevitable at some point.
- Best advice: stay sensible. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live. And don’t chase losses — it rarely ends well.
- Betting should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it’s taking over your life, annoying you or stressing you out, take a break. If needed, speak to a specialised support organisation. That’s what they’re for.
- Ultimately the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting the risk exists and won’t vanish, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with your country’s law. Gambling can spiral quickly (loss of money, family tensions, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment on our part
Our predictions don’t constitute a contract. They have no legal standing. In short: you can’t rely on them to make a claim if a bet loses.
Info that can change
A prediction is based on what we know when we write it. But in the meantime, a lineup can change, a player can get hurt, the weather can turn… and the analysis quickly becomes outdated. We can’t be held responsible for that.
Your role
