Moutet cracks in Phoenix: racket thrown and a frustrating exit
Big disappointment for Corentin Moutet. He looked in control in the Phoenix Challenger semi. Then he completely froze against Marcos Giron on Saturday. Leading 6-4, 3-1, the world No. 33 was overturned by the American in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4). The maddening part? He still had a break in the final set before he totally lost his way.
A flare-up and a cryptic social post
Top seed in Arizona, the Parisian finally snapped. On Giron’s second match point Moutet couldn’t get the return back. He blew up — then chucked his racket well beyond the court lines.
It then spilled onto social media. Still hot, the 26-year-old posted a cryptic Instagram story: “Chaos inspires the muse. Today was chaotic,” he wrote to sum up his afternoon.

An all-American final with big stakes
With that gritty win, Marcos Giron (No.69) books his spot in the final against fellow American Ethan Quinn (No.73). Quinn escaped a trap from Brit Billy Harris in two suffocating tiebreaks (7-6, 7-6). The stakes are huge: this super-Challenger hands 175 points to the winner — more valuable for the rankings than losing an ATP 250 final.
On the French front there’s still something to smile about in Phoenix. The French-Monegasque pairing of Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Hugo Nys reached the doubles final.
Action in the Dominican Republic too
Meanwhile balls are flying at the Cap Cana Challenger 175. The title will be contested between Italy’s Mattia Bellucci (No.94) and Argentina’s Mariano Navone (No.79). Big points are up for grabs as both chase a top-50 breakthrough.
