Strasbourg vs Nice: a dress rehearsal before the cup clash at the Meinau Logo Ligue 1

This Saturday, the lively Meinau gives us a pretty tasty appetiser. RC Strasbourg, an ambitious European hopeful, lock horns with OGC Nice, a side that’s currently in the doldrums. It’s a huge league game, but it’ll also serve as a scouting mission before their big rematch in the Coupe de France semi-finals on 22 April.

Under Gary O’Neil, Strasbourg are riding a superb run of nine straight games without a single defeat in all competitions. Still alive in the Conference League, they’ve got Monaco’s sixth place in their sights. But there’s a snag: at home lately, they’ve got a nasty habit of settling for a draw.

And then came the bad news. Strasbourg have lost their top scorer Panichelli for the rest of the season. Without their main man to deliver the killer blows, they’ll need to find a new way to hurt teams if they want to avoid another frustrating night against their old tormentors from the Riviera, who they haven’t beaten since May 2023.

On the Côte d’Azur, things are looking bleak. Just before the international break, the Aiglons were blown away by league leaders Paris, losing 4-0 at home in a miserable showing. The record under Claude Puel is turning ugly fast, with just two wins in their last 17 league games. The threat of the drop is starting to loom larger by the week.

Oddly enough, both of those recent wins came away from home. To stop the rot and bring back a few precious points from Alsace, Nice will almost certainly need to dig in, stay organised and soak up pressure at the Meinau. If they can ride out the storm, a smash-and-grab on the break is very much on the table for a team that, bizarrely, travels better than it performs at home.

Likely line-ups

Strasbourg : Penders ; Hogsberg, Doukoure, Omobamidele, Doue ; Barco, Oyedele ; Amo-Ameyaw, Nanasi, Godo ; Fofana

Nice : Diouf ; Mendy, Dante, Bah ; Clauss, Boudaoui, Sanson, Vanhoutte, Bard ; Diop, Wahi

Draw

This one looks like a scrap. Two teams, both desperate for points, both staring down the same ugly truth: the season’s running out of road.

Strasbourg’s brutal blow with Panichelli out for the season could jam up a front line that’s already struggling to turn recent home draws into wins. Nice, for their part, have precious little confidence left, but they’ve shown a bit of grit on the road. Before they meet again in the cup, this feels like a chess match with very few clear moves. A stalemate, and a share of the spoils, looks the likeliest outcome.

Before anything else, a word on our predictions

  • What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We’re sharing an opinion, a read of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the whole script changes.
  • Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a safe bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it really isn’t. And yes, that means you can lose. At some point, you will.
  • The smart move is to keep it sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t go near money you need to live on. And whatever you do, don’t chase losses. That usually ends badly.
  • A bet should stay a bit of fun, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking over your day, winding you up or putting you under pressure, step away. And if you need help, speak to a specialist organisation. That’s what it’s there for.
  • In the end, it’s on you. Reading our content means accepting that risk is part of the deal, and it never goes away, no matter how good the analysis looks.
  • Important reminder: betting is forbidden for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast, leading to money problems, family tension and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions aren’t a contract. They carry no legal weight. Put simply: if a bet fails, you can’t come back and demand anything off the back of it.

Information moves fast

A prediction is always based on what we know when we write it. But then a team sheet changes, a player gets hurt, the weather turns… and the analysis can be out of date in no time. We can’t be held responsible for that.

Your job

Before you bet, make sure wagering is legal where you are. If it isn’t, that’s your problem, not ours.

Responsible gambling first

We can’t say it enough: play in moderation. If you’re struggling to keep control, don’t wait to get help. We can’t be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
