San Jose Sharks – St. Louis Blues: a high-stakes sprint to the finish!
This is one of the juiciest late-March showdowns in the NHL. Against expectations both clubs still have real shots at a playoff ticket — and that’s especially eyebrow-raising for the Blues, a team a lot of people had written off until very recently.
How will this crunch match go? Time to dig into the advanced numbers and pick the clearest betting angle.
San Jose need to end their home misery
A 3-2 scrape over the Columbus Blue Jackets snapped an embarrassing six-game losing streak for Ryan Warsofsky’s side. The wake-up keeps the Sharks clinging to 12th in the West, four points back of the top eight. On pure points they’d be in the race — it’s the tiebreakers that are currently their enemy.
Trouble is, the SAP Center hasn’t felt like home. San Jose have lost each of their last four home games. If they want to stay alive in this battle they have to stop that slide now. Home numbers aren’t great: 50% win rate, 2.94 goals scored versus 3.41 conceded. Net lineup news: Yaroslav Askarov — knocked about recently against these same Blues — should be back in goal, and John Klingberg is expected to return on the blue line. Ty Dellandrea’s status is less certain.
St. Louis’s impressive revival
Jim Montgomery’s group are throwing everything at the race now. The Blues have rattled off four straight wins — Vancouver 3-1, Washington 3-0, San Jose 2-1 after overtime, and Toronto 5-1. Sitting 13th in the West, they’re only two points shy of a playoff spot and they’ve got games in hand. A late heist is completely on the table.
On the road the Blues look tougher than before, picking up points in seven of their last eight trips. Still, the full-year away record stays shaky: just 37.1% wins, 2.60 goals scored and 3.26 conceded. Robert Thomas returning has helped — he already set up two goals against the Leafs — and Tyler Tucker should bolster the defense before the weekend. What keeps St. Louis breathing is a locked-down defensive unit and some massive work from the goalies, covering for a fairly timid attack.
NHL Prediction San Jose Sharks vs St. Louis Blues
Under 6.5 goals in the game
The visitors’ defensive form is the headline here. St. Louis have been locking things down lately. The stat that matters: none of the last 15 games involving the Blues has seen more than six goals in total.
Against a Sharks side that struggles to light the lamp at home and will treat this like a must-win, expect a tactical chess match rather than a shootout. Betting on a tight, low-scoring affair — Under 6.5 goals — is the sharp, logical play for this night.

First, a quick word on our picks
- What we publish on Mathodds is analysis and opinion — nothing guaranteed. We offer a take, not a promise. Sport is messy: a red card, a fresh injury, a fluke goal — and the whole script flips.
- Let’s be blunt: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even the “obvious” ones can blow up. Yes, you can lose. It happens — and it will happen to you at some point.
- Be sensible. Bet small, set a bankroll and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need for bills. Don’t chase losses — that’s how things get ugly.
- Betting should be entertainment, not a job or income stream. If it’s taking over, stressing you out or causing arguments, step away and seek help from a specialist organisation.
- Responsibility sits with you. Reading our content means you accept that risk exists and nothing — not even the smartest analysis — makes it disappear.
- Important reminder: betting is forbidden for minors and must follow your local laws. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family tension, addiction). Need help? Gambler Helpline: 09 74 75 13 13 (free call) https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No liability from us
Our picks aren’t a contract and carry no legal weight. Plain and simple: you can’t claim anything from us if a bet loses.
Facts can change
A prediction is based on what we know when we write it. Lineups change, players get injured, weather interferes — and the analysis can become outdated fast. We can’t be held responsible for that.
