Real Sociedad – Alaves: Basque derby with Europe on the line at Anoeta
Anoeta is set to be rocking on Saturday afternoon. Real Sociedad host Alaves. Europe is the big talking point around town. Real Sociedad are looking to cement seventh place in the table. A Basque derby never leaves much room for caution or fine calculations. The tension is already building in the streets of San Sebastian before kick-off.
Real Sociedad’s ideal build-up
Real Sociedad come into this on the back of two wins in their last three games. The recent victory over Levante has lifted the mood in the dressing room. They’ve been strong at home this season. The players have won eight of their 15 league matches at Anoeta. This is the final dress rehearsal before the Copa del Rey final. Real Sociedad face Atletico Madrid for the trophy on 18 April.
The fight to stay up
The visitors’ manager is battling to keep his club in the top flight. Even so, Alaves have had the upper hand in recent league meetings with Real Sociedad. They’ve won the last three La Liga clashes between the sides. Away trips, though, have often been a mess this season. The side have lost 10 of their 15 competitive matches on the road. Their attack has been blunt away from home too, with just 13 goals scored. Even so, Alaves will fancy their chances of catching Real Sociedad cold before their big cup date.
Likely line-ups
Real Sociedad : Remiro ; Aramburu, Martin, Caleta-Car, Gomez ; Turrientes, Soler ; Barrenetxea, Sucic, Guedes ; Oyarzabal
Alaves : Sivera ; Tenaglia, Jonny, Parada ; Perez, Blanco, Ibanez, Rebbach ; Alena ; Martinez, Boye
Football prediction Real Sociedad vs Alaves
Real Sociedad to win
The need to lock down a European place should fire up the home side from the first whistle. Real Sociedad’s midfield should set a sharper technical tempo and keep control of the game.
Alaves’ lack of confidence on the road ought to make life easier for the home forwards. Real Sociedad should back up their excellent home form with a valuable win.
Their overall tactical control, plus the noise at Anoeta, should be enough to get the favourites over the line.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks nailed on, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
- Best thing you can do is keep a lid on it. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And above all, don’t chase losses — that rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a bit of fun, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, if it winds you up or puts you under pressure, take a break. And if you need to, speak to a specialist support group. That’s what they’re there for.
- In the end, it’s on you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and won’t go away, no matter how good the analysis is.
- Important reminder: betting is off-limits to minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money problems, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. Put simply: you can’t use them to demand anything if a bet goes wrong.
Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But things move on. Team news changes, a player gets injured, the weather turns nasty… and the analysis can be out of date before you know it. We can’t be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, make sure gambling is legal where you are. If it isn’t, that’s your problem, not ours.
Responsible gambling first
We’ll say it again: gamble in moderation. If you’re struggling to stay in control, don’t hang about — get help. We can’t be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information on the site.
Legal age
