Pittsburgh Penguins – Dallas Stars: two teams in freefall!
This is an unexpected showdown between two clubs slipping hard at the same time. Pittsburgh is scrapping to lock a playoff spot but can’t find any consistency, while Dallas — tipped as one of the West’s big favorites — has hit a proper results drought.
Can the home side cash in on Texas’ troubles, or are we in for yet another game stretched beyond 60 minutes? We break down the trends and give you the cleanest pick.
The Penguins can’t close it out
Sitting 6th in the Eastern Conference (88 points, 247 for, 228 against), the Penguins are in a rough patch. Three defeats in their last five — every point is being wrestled out of them.
They’ve just scraped past Ottawa on a shootout (4-3) and nicked one from Winnipeg (5-4), but they’ve also been thumped by Carolina (5-1) and Colorado (6-2) with a defence falling apart. The ugly stat? Pittsburgh hasn’t won in regulation at home in six straight games. They take too many matches to overtime and can’t finish within 60 minutes.
Dallas in a tailspin
Dallas are in a strange spot. Comfortable in 2nd in the West (97 points, 245 for, 198 against), yet they look worrying. They’re on a nasty four-game losing streak; their only recent win was a last-minute shootout escape vs Colorado (2-1).
The biggest sting was a 6-4 reverse to New Jersey where the defence simply imploded. The slight upside: three of those four losses were by just one goal, which shows they’re still competitive. But the cold fact remains: like Pittsburgh, Dallas hasn’t won in regulation in seven straight games.

NHL Prediction Pittsburgh Penguins vs Dallas Stars
Tie or Dallas Stars win
Despite their wobble, the Stars show real resilience: they push games to overtime a lot and rarely lose by big margins in regulation — most of their recent defeats have gone down to the wire.
On the other side, the Penguins can’t close at home, six straight games without a regulation win in front of their crowd. Add that Dallas avoided a regulation loss in 7 of their last 8 away trips and the trend is obvious. Back the “X2” (Dallas win or tie after 60 minutes) — it’s the perfect cover and the clearest bet for this trainwreck of a matchup.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We give an opinion, a snapshot of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport stays what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the whole script changes.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, it usually isn’t. Yes — you can lose. It’s inevitable at some point.
- Do the sensible thing. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need for living. And above all: don’t chase losses, it rarely ends well.
- Betting should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it’s taking over your life, making you angry or stressed, take a break. If needed, talk to a specialist support service. That’s what they’re for.
- In the end, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept the risk exists and that it won’t disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is banned to minors and must follow your country’s law. Gambling can spiral out of control (money losses, family tensions, addiction). Need help? Gamblers’ Info Service: 09 74 75 13 13 (standard rate) https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us

Info changes
A prediction always rests on what we know when we write it. But team sheets change, a player gets hurt, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We can’t be held responsible for that.
