Pisa – Cagliari: a last-ditch showdown for the Tuscans
This Sunday the Arena Garibaldi will be a pressure cooker for matchday 29. Bottom of the table, Pisa have to win — no ifs, no buts — to keep any faint survival hopes alive, while 14th-placed Cagliari need points to stop sliding toward the drop zone.
Pisa sinking further into the mire
The party that came with a return to the top flight after 34 years has turned into a nightmare. Ten points shy of safety, a quick trip back to Serie B looks likely. The cold facts hurt: one solitary win all season (back in November) and a defence leaking goals (48 conceded — the third-worst record, only Torino and Hellas Verona are worse).
The early-February coaching swap — Oscar Hiljemark replacing Alberto Gilardino — didn’t spark anything. After a goalless opener, Pisa have tumbled through four straight defeats, their attack mute in three of those four losses. Their season-long sin? Turning draws into wins. Twelve stalemates so far — a league record — and too many matches lost to indecision.
Cagliari gasping for air
Cagliari aren’t exactly cruising either. Fabio Pisacane’s men have scraped just two points from their last five outings — a nasty slump after a booming January when they toppled Juve, Verona and Fiorentina.
Their attack has gone quiet — no goals in three of their last five matches — though a 1-1 draw at Parma and a narrow 2-1 loss to Como show they’re not completely dead in the water. With only six points between them and the drop, Cagliari must steady quickly. A defeat in Tuscany would make the run-in feel like choking.
Likely line-ups
Pisa : Nicolas ; Calabresi, Caracciolo, Coppola ; Toure, Marin, Aebischer, Loyola, Angori ; Moreo, Durosinmi
Cagliari : Caprile ; Ze Pedro, Rodriguez, Dossena, Obert ; Adopo, Sulemana, Liteta ; Palestra, Folorunsho, Kilicsoy
Football Prediction Pisa vs Cagliari
Under 2.5 goals
We’ve got two teams who’ve lost their scoring touch and who look terrified of doing something daft. Fear will tighten play, not free it up.
Pisa will throw everything at this — it’s life or death for them and they could find an extra gear — but don’t expect fireworks. This looks like a grim, stop-start scrap, full of tackles and fouls and nervous mistakes. A tight scoreline with under three goals on the board is the sensible call for this relegation scrap.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses and opinions — not guarantees. Sport is unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the whole script flips.
- Let’s be blunt: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, it can go wrong. Yes, you can lose. You will, at some point.
- Be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need for bills. And whatever you do, don’t chase losses — that rarely ends well.
- Betting should be entertainment, not a job or income source. If it’s taking over, making you anxious or stressed, take a break. If needed, speak to a specialist organization — that’s what they’re for.
- At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting the risk stays real, no matter how good the analysis.
- Important reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must follow the law where you live. It can spiral into money problems, family tension and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
