Ottawa Senators – Montreal Canadiens: offensive clash at Canadian Tire Centre
The Canadian Tire Centre hosts a crucial East playoff scrap. Ottawa’s scrambling for a wild-card spot. Montreal’s after a top-three finish in the division. Both clubs are riding red-hot scoring runs. Whoever controls the tempo will decide this Canadian throwdown.
Ottawa on a roll
Travis Green’s bunch are piling up points and they don’t look like slowing. Seven straight games with points. Three straight solid wins in that stretch — Calgary (4-1), Seattle (7-4) and Vancouver (2-0). That hot spell drags the Ontario club to within five points of the East’s top eight, with a game in hand.
The home rink has been tough to crack. The only post-break slip was that overtime heartbreaker to Detroit (1-2). The defence has stood tall in front of the fans. Just 81 goals conceded — a tight 2.79 per game.
Injuries bite, though. Jake Sanderson, the defensive anchor and the team’s fourth-leading scorer, will miss several weeks. He’s not expected back before the end of March. Nicolas Matinpalo slots back in to plug the hole. Thomas Chabot will pick up heavier minutes on the top pairing.
Canadiens terrorize opposition rinks
Martin St. Louis’ squad has been brutally consistent. Points in ten of their last eleven games. The recent home win over Toronto (3-1) shoved Montreal into the East’s top four. The podium is one victory away.
Canadiens away form stands out. Road points percentage sits at 65.6% (second in the East). Montreal averages a staggering 3.66 goals per game on the road. There’s a thread of inconsistency, though — wins and losses have alternated away from home since early January.
Help is coming. Cole Caufield, slowed by a minor injury, will return for this trip to the nation’s capital. Patrik Laine will wait until next week to get back after months out. Expect the coaches to stick with Lane Hutson and Kaiden Guhle as the top defensive pairing.
NHL Prediction Ottawa Senators vs Montreal Canadiens
Over 4.5 goals (OT incl.)
Recent history between these teams promises a high-scoring show. Defensive solidity usually peels away in these meetings, opening the game up. The last six regular-season clashes between them have all cleared six combined goals.
Montreal’s road numbers back that up. Their offence sets a relentless pace away from home. The Canadiens’ last nine road games have all produced at least six goals. The visitors’ firepower, plus Jake Sanderson’s absence in Ottawa, makes a high scoreline the sensible call tonight. Backing the over is the smart play.

First, a word about our picks
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. We share an opinion, a snapshot — never a guarantee. Sport stays what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the whole script flips.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it rarely is. Yes, you can lose. At some point you will.
- The smart move is to be sensible. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live. And don’t chase losses — it almost never ends well.
- A bet should stay entertainment, not a job or a source of income. If it’s taking over your life, making you anxious or stressed, take a break. If needed, contact a specialist organisation — that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting the risk is real and won’t disappear, even with the best analysis.
- Important reminder: betting is prohibited for minors and must comply with your country’s laws. Gambling can spiral quickly (money lost, family tensions, addiction). Need help? Call 09 74 75 13 13 (non-premium rate) https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No obligations from us
Our picks do not form a contract. They carry no legal weight. Plainly: you can’t rely on them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Info can change
A prediction is always based on what we know when we write it. In the meantime a lineup (for the Ottawa Senators or the Montreal Canadiens) can change, a player can get injured, the weather can turn… and the analysis can quickly become outdated. We can’t be held responsible for that.
Your role
