Nottingham Forest v Ferencváros — a ticket to the top eight on the line
Nottingham Forest host Ferencváros on Thursday night as the Europa League group stage wraps up. Forest have plenty riding on this at the City Ground, while the Hungarians want to lock down a top-eight spot.
Forest still believe they can do it
Back in Europe for the first time in three decades, Nottingham Forest have already nailed the basics: at least a place in the play-offs. But they want more — a direct route into the last 16 is the real prize. Last week’s defeat at Braga has made that trickier. Beaten 1-0 in Portugal in a bonkers finish, the Tricky Trees dropped ground and now sit 14th.
On paper Forest don’t have much margin. They must win on Thursday and then hope others slip up. A draw or a loss would shove them into the play-offs. Sean Dyche warned about a lack of cutting edge after Braga, but the response was instant in the league. Sunday’s 2-0 win at Brentford gave them breathing room and kept their Premier League run ticking.
At the City Ground Forest have been solid in the Europa League. Porto and Malmö left empty-handed, shipping five between them and scoring none.
Ferencváros arrive in England with little pressure
Ferencváros travel to England in a much comfier spot. Unbeaten after seven matches, the Hungarians are one of the few teams yet to lose in this group. Sitting seventh, Robbie Keane’s side know a win at the City Ground would book them a direct place in the last 16, no help required.
Their European form has been impressive, with a few statement wins. Still, the Green Eagles let a crucial three points slip last week, conceding a late equaliser to Panathinaikos. Back home the momentum is shakier. Beaten at home on Sunday, the Hungarian champions have lost ground in the title race and will be keen to avoid a sticky run.
Matches against English clubs haven’t always gone their way, but this season Ferencváros have shown they can travel and ride out tough patches.
Probable line-ups
Nottingham Forest : Sels ; Savona, Milenkovic, Morato, Williams ; Yates, Sangare ; Ndoye, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi ; Jesus

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a snapshot of the moment, not a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the whole script changes.
- Let’s be blunt: there’s no such thing as a no-risk bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it rarely is. And yes, that means you can lose. It will happen.
- Best practice is simple: be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And don’t chase losses — that never ends well.
- Betting should stay a hobby, not a job or a source of income. If it’s taking over your life, making you angry or stressed, step back. If necessary, speak to a specialist. That’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept that risk exists and that it won’t disappear, even with the best analysis.
- Essential reminder: betting is banned for minors and must comply with your local laws. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions aren’t a contract. They carry no legal weight. In plain terms: you can’t use them to make a claim if a bet loses.
Information that can change
A prediction is based on what we know when we publish it. Between then and kick-off a team sheet (like Ferencvaros’s) can change, a player can pick up an injury, the weather can turn… and the analysis can quickly become out of date. We can’t be held liable for that.
