Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 (P) New York Rangers: Columbus survives a wild comeback

Down 4-0, the Rangers nearly pulled off the impossible at Madison Square Garden. But in overtime, Kirill Marchenko finished it.

At 1:04 of extra time, the Columbus forward picked the two-on-one and fired. Game-winner. That was that.

Marchenko finished with three points. Sean Monahan, Adam Fantilli and Mathieu Olivier also scored. On the other side, Gabriel Perreault led the charge with two goals and an assist, including the 4-4 at 15:12 of the third. Too late.

Detroit Red Wings 4-2 Nashville Predators: grit and depth

Without John Gibson due to an upper-body injury, Detroit dug deep.

Albert Johansson’s shorthanded goal proved decisive. Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat each added a goal and an assist. Cam Talbot slammed the door in the third.

Nashville had struck first through Jonathan Marchessault, but Detroit answered coolly.

Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 (TB) Toronto Maple Leafs: a shootout decides it

The Flyers had the last laugh in a shootout against the Maple Leafs.

Matvei Michkov, then Trevor Zegras scored in the shootout. William Nylander had forced overtime for Toronto with his 20th of the season.

Philadelphia notches a third straight win. Toronto is still hunting its first post-Olympic victory.

Seattle Kraken 2-1 Carolina Hurricanes: streak snapped

Carolina’s run stops at five. The Seattle Kraken held firm.

Joey Daccord stopped 35 shots. Ben Meyers banged home the winner after a relentless second-chance effort. Seattle picked up a statement win and knocked the wind out of one of the league’s hottest teams.

Dallas Stars 6-1 Vancouver Canucks: franchise record

Nine wins in a row. New high for the Stars/North Stars franchise.

Dallas rolled past Vancouver. Jason Robertson and Lian Bichsel scored 1:10 apart to flip the game.

Dallas skates with confidence, flow and authority. Vancouver, meanwhile, took its sixth straight loss.

Colorado Avalanche 4-2 Los Angeles Kings: MacKinnon nears 100 points

The Avalanche spoiled D.J. Smith’s debut behind the Kings’ bench.

Devon Toews broke the tie in the third on a brilliant feed from Nathan MacKinnon, who hit 99 points this season. Gabriel Landeskog and Martin Necas also delivered.

Colorado keeps moving with force. Los Angeles is still searching for a second wind.

A packed, spectacular and sometimes cruel night. March is underway, and the NHL is already starting to feel the spring tension.
