Newcastle – Fulham: St. James’ Park the decider
Wednesday night Newcastle host Fulham with a place in the League Cup semi-finals up for grabs. A big game for two sides still hunting their real identity this season.
Newcastle : must hit back
The trip to Sunderland hurt. Beaten 1-0 in a derby soaked in feeling, Eddie Howe’s players left frustrated and the criticism landed quick. Newcastle have been lurching along since the start of the season, unable to find lasting momentum.
One win in the last four outings, all competitions, and that constant sense of a squad capable of brilliance or collapse. Still, the League Cup is familiar ground. As holders, the club know this competition can be a refuge in a messy season.
At home, though, it’s steadier. St. James’ Park remains hard to prise open. Eight matches unbeaten, an electric crowd and a team that often raises its level in front of its own fans.
Newcastle : squad update
Dan Burn, hit in the ribs and hospitalised after the derby, will miss this one. Eddie Howe is also without several regulars: Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman and Nick Pope remain sidelined.
Yoane Wissa, used in short bursts recently, could again be thrown on. Joelinton, left on the bench on Sunday, should return to the XI, mainly to add bite in midfield.
Fulham: pushing on with doubts
The win at Burnley (3-2) gave Fulham some breathing room. Important result, but it doesn’t erase the questions. Since the season began Marco Silva’s men have struggled to string performances together. Good displays are often followed by blurred patches.
Touted as ambitious last summer, Fulham now sit in a less comfortable part of the table. Tough away trips are stacking up. Recent memories at St. James’ Park aren’t great — they lost there at the end of October.
Fulham: squad update
Rodrigo Muniz remains out, still bothered by a hamstring issue. Up front, Kevin could still start despite his lack of end product since arriving.
Harry Wilson, on the other hand, arrives full of confidence. Scored again at the weekend, the Welshman keeps delivering solid performances and is the visitors’ main attacking threat. Captain Tom Cairney is also pushing for a starting spot.
Newcastle have plenty at stake. After the derby disappointment a reaction is expected, especially at home. Defensive solidity has been patchy in recent weeks, but fight and intensity could decide it.
Fulham turn up without massive pressure but eager to grab a chance. The Londoners’ recent matches have often been open, sometimes messy. All signs point to an entertaining tie, with chances at both ends.
Football Prediction Newcastle – Fulham
Both teams to score
Newcastle and Fulham should serve up an open, high-tempo game. Both sides have decent attacking weapons and often leave space at the back. A scenario where both teams score looks very likely

First, a word on our tips
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing else. We give an opinion — a read of the moment — never a promise. Sport’s unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the script flips.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing truly is. And yes — that means you can lose. It’s inevitable at some point.
- Best plan: be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live. And above all: don’t chase losses, it rarely ends well.
- Betting should stay a game, not a job or a way to make a living. If it’s taking over, annoying you or putting you under pressure, take a break. If needed, talk to a specialist organisation. That’s what they’re for.
- In the end, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept the risk exists and won’t disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with your country’s laws. Gambling can quickly spiral (money losses, family tensions, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our tips aren’t a contract. They carry no legal weight. Plain and simple: you can’t use them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Information that changes
A prediction is based on what we know when we write it. But between then and kick-off a team sheet (like Newcastle’s) can change, a player can get injured, the weather can turn… and the analysis becomes outdated. We can’t be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, check that gambling is legal where you are. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.
