NRL – Warriors v Raiders: Auckland expects a statement
Round two serves up a proper test Friday night in New Zealand. At Go Media Stadium in Auckland the Warriors host the Raiders — two teams off winning starts. Early momentum matters, so both will be desperate to back up their openers and press into the early top spots.
The Warriors turned heads in their first outing, while Canberra had to scrape one out late. On paper both carry good momentum… but the hows still raise questions.
The Warriors want to back up that strong start
Last week the Warriors stunned everyone, thumping the Roosters 42-18 in front of their crowd. Plenty expected them to struggle with several key absences, but the New Zealand side answered with grit and ruthless finishing.
They grabbed control early, leading 22-6 at one stage. Their attacking shape and ball security made the difference. The stat line is clear: 56% possession, 81% completion, and almost nine metres gained per carry.
When the Roosters tried to fight back, the Warriors regained control and shut the game down. It wasn’t perfect — 47 missed tackles show the defence still needs work. But overall the performance sent a loud message: this team will cause problems for a lot of sides this season.
The Raiders win… but have plenty to fix
Canberra also opened with a win, but it was messy. Their trip to the Sea Eagles turned into a proper rollercoaster.
They started badly, conceding two quick tries, then woke up and flipped the game to build a decent lead. The issue: that lead nearly disappeared in the closing minutes.
In the end the Raiders nicked it 29-28 after extra time thanks to Ethan Sanders’ clutch kick. A valuable win, but a mixed one — Ricky Stuart’s men gave away too many chances, missed 36 tackles and made a string of simple errors.
Young Sanders, in only his fifth NRL match, showed impressive calm under pressure. Still, this trip to Auckland is a different test — a more experienced outfit backed by a loud home crowd.
Match-up and momentum
On paper this is two sides that can put up points. The Warriors showed a slick attack in round one, while the Raiders have the firepower to punish any mistake.
A few things to note before kick-off:
- Warriors put up 42 points in their season opener.
- Canberra conceded several quick tries against the Sea Eagles.
- Both teams topped 80% completion rate in round one.
The home atmosphere could tilt things toward the New Zealanders, but Canberra are a tough outfit to shift — they hang in there in pretty much any scenario.
NRL Prediction Warriors vs Raiders
Over 48.5 points
Expect an open contest. The Warriors showed smooth attacking rhythm last week; the Raiders proved they can stay dangerous even when under pressure.
If Canberra tightens a few defensive cracks, this could quickly turn into a try-fest. In that scenario the points line looks reachable.

First, a word on our tips
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. It’s an opinion, a snapshot of the moment — not a guarantee. Sport stays unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak score… and the script flips.
- Let’s be blunt: there’s no bet without risk. Even when it looks “obvious”, it rarely is. Yes, you can lose. You will, at some point.
- Best advice: be sensible. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And don’t chase losses — it never ends well.
- Betting should be entertainment, not a job or income. If it’s taking over your life, take a break. If needed, talk to a specialist service.
- Ultimately the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept that risk exists and never fully disappears, even with the best analysis.
