New Jersey Devils – Calgary Flames: Devils Hungry for the Playoffs
It’s at the Prudential Center and the stakes are loud and clear for the hosts. New Jersey welcomes Calgary with a single objective: keep chasing a playoff spot. With the season closing fast, the Devils can’t afford to drop points.
Calgary, meanwhile, are having a nightmare of a season and have very little left to play for. So — will the home side do the job, or will the Flames crash the party? Let’s pick this apart.
Devils waking up
They’re 14th in the Eastern Conference with 66 points (166 goals for, 192 against) and hanging on. If they’re still alive for a playoff spot, it’s often their shaky defence that stops them from putting a proper run together.
Thing is, momentum has flipped. Four wins in their last five. They thumped the Rangers 6-3, battered Florida 5-1 and edged Toronto 4-3 on penalties. The lone blip was a shutout loss to Detroit (0-3). Overall, the club’s going in the right direction.
Calgary falling apart
On the Canadian side it’s grim. The Flames sit second-last in the West (15th with 57 points, 158 for, 200 against). They can’t spark the attack and they can’t shut teams down.
One win in five — and it was a surprise 5-4 over Carolina. The rest has been messy: heavy losses to Washington (7-3) and the Rangers (4-0). Against New York they outshot the opponent but couldn’t finish. Bottom line: chances come, but the finishing touch is missing.

NHL prediction New Jersey Devils vs Calgary Flames
New Jersey Devils to score over 2.5 goals
The Devils arrive fired up. Four wins in five and an attack currently churning out roughly 3.6 goals per game puts real pressure on opponents. There’s a bit of edge too — they already went to Calgary and came away with a 2-1 win earlier this season.
The Flames are leaking goals on the road — about 3.4 conceded per away game — and sit on a four-game road losing streak. With New Jersey’s attack buzzing and Calgary’s defence in freefall on the road, backing the Devils to hit at least three goals tonight is a no-brainer.

First — a word about our picks
- What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We offer an opinion, a snapshot of the moment, not a guarantee. Sport is unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal — everything can flip.
- Let’s be frank: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even the “obvious” ones fail. Yes, you can lose. It happens.
- Be sensible. Bet small, set a bankroll and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live. Don’t chase losses — that rarely ends well.
- Betting should stay entertainment, not a job or a revenue stream. If it’s taking over your life or causing stress, take a break. If you need help, speak to a specialist.
- At the end of the day, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept the risk remains, no matter how good the analysis.
- Important reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with local law. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

Our picks aren’t a contract. They carry no legal weight. You can’t claim anything if a bet fails.
Information can change
A prediction is based on what we know when we write it. Lineups shift, injuries happen, weather turns — and the analysis can become obsolete fast. We can’t be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, check that gambling is legal where you are. If it’s not, that’s on you.
