A historic night in defeat
In a clash between two battered sides, the Milwaukee Bucks got the better of the Memphis Grizzlies, 131-115. But the result almost felt secondary. All eyes were on Rayan Rupert after a simply outrageous night.
The 21-year-old Frenchman turned in the best performance of his career, piling up 33 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for his first NBA triple-double.

A monster outing from a player who’d been putting up far more modest numbers until now, and proof of just how far he’s come despite the mess around him.
Milwaukee had more in the tank as a team
Rupert’s individual brilliance wasn’t enough. The Milwaukee Bucks won this the hard way, with a stronger, steadier group effort. Ryan Rollins led them with 24 points, while Cormac Ryan chipped in with 21

and Taurean Prince added 19, with the latter deadly from deep.
Myles Turner also did damage inside with 19 points and 11 rebounds, giving Milwaukee a proper presence in the paint in a game they controlled in most areas.
Even with 20 turnovers, the Bucks made their shots count. They hit better than 60 per cent from the field and were razor-sharp from three, which let them run the game pretty much from start to finish.
Memphis undone by the injuries
For the Memphis Grizzlies, it’s still a grim picture. They’re crawling through injuries and had to throw several short-term signings into the mix just to make up the numbers.
Against that backdrop, Rupert’s night looks even more ridiculous. He carried them, plain and simple, showing the full package and plenty of flair on both ends. But he didn’t have nearly enough help, and the defensive holes were eventually exposed.
Memphis did make a push, cutting the gap to a single possession late on. But the Bucks kept landing punches, and any talk of a comeback was quickly shut down.
The slump rolls on
This loss makes it four straight for the Grizzlies, who are now in a nasty rut with 17 defeats in their last 19 games. That’s the kind of slide that drags a team towards the bottom and into draft lottery territory.
The Bucks, by contrast, snapped a long winless run against Memphis and picked up a bit of belief, even with a patchy roster of their own.

Both sides were missing bodies
The Bucks were also short-handed, with several regulars out — including Giannis Antetokounmpo, who remains sidelined with a knee injury. It mattered, of course. But not enough to stop Milwaukee from putting on a high-level offensive show.
Late in the game, the Antetokounmpo brothers still managed a little moment for the cameras, with Thanasis Antetokounmpo finishing off an Alex Antetokounmpo assist on a dunk, a neat exclamation point on a night the Bucks mostly had under control.
Rupert gives Memphis hope
Memphis lost, but Rupert’s display will linger. At 21, he looks like a player with real upside, and nights like this hint at a much bigger role down the line.
That first triple-double, along with a career-best scoring haul, could be the moment things start to click for him this season. On a team going nowhere fast, he already looks like someone worth building around.
Milwaukee cruise, Memphis take the hit
In the end, this game showed the difference between a side that can lean on structure and balance, and one chasing sparks from one player to the next. The Milwaukee Bucks handled their business cleanly. The Memphis Grizzlies, despite Rupert’s huge night, are still wading through a miserable season.
One thing’s clear: even in defeat, Rayan Rupert made people sit up and take notice, and may just have given his NBA career the shove it needed.
