Some nights the scoreboard becomes a straight-up shootout. In Salt Lake City the Nuggets vs Jazz turned into a modern Western. Two scorers. Two temperaments. Two offensive explosions. In the end Denver walked away with the win, 128-125. But for 48 minutes it was a nonstop gunfight between Jamal Murray and Keyonte George.

Murray on fire, Denver clings to his brilliance
Jamal Murray acted like the back-to-back didn’t exist. 45 points. 13-for-19 from the floor. Eight threes. He rained down shots in the third — 18 points by himself to breathe life back into a winded Nuggets side.

Denver had lost to Minnesota the night before. Legs felt heavy. Rotations lagged. With Nikola Jokic getting targeted and forced to catch his breath at times, Murray grabbed the reins. Pick-and-rolls. Mid-range pull-ups. Deep transition threes. He used everything.
Then the free throws with 31.8 seconds left. No wobble. No drama. Just the snap of the net.
Jokic finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds, plus two clutch freebies with 6.1 seconds left. Not his flashiest night, but a captain’s performance — he knows when to shut the door.
Keyonte George — the future hitting now
Across from him, Keyonte George refused to back down. 36 points in 30 minutes, 14-for-22 shooting, four triples. Coming off a three-week absence with an ankle sprain, that was a clear statement.

His dunk at 2:13 put the Jazz ahead, 122-118. The building exploded. Momentum flipped. For a few seconds it felt like an upset was on the cards.
Then the controversial play. George attacks the rim and collides with Jokic. Sixth foul? Refs initially call a shooting foul. An interminable video review. Call reversed. Block stands. No free throws. The chance to tie or take the lead evaporates.
Last possession: a buzzer three. Missed. Game over.
A depleted Jazz, but never surrendering
Without Lauri Markkanen and several starters out, Utah could’ve folded. Instead the Jazz bit in with their teeth.
Kyle Filipowski finished with 19. Ace Bailey added 18. They stayed in the fight despite stretches down by ten. Sixth straight loss, sure. But not a rout. More proof the young core is learning fast.
Denver survives, but the warning light is on
The Nuggets had lost three of their last four coming in. Fatigue showed. Sloppiness showed. But when Murray brings this level of aggression and accuracy, Denver turns into a team that can quiet any arena.
Next up: the Lakers for Denver. The Jazz head to Philadelphia.
On the stat sheet and on the scoreboard, Murray won the duel. But in Salt Lake City everyone realized Keyonte George is no longer just a prospect. He’s already a threat.
