A rumour shaking the Bay
Rumours in Golden State never ride quietly. Not when they come from a respected NBA voice. This time Marc Spears dropped a small bomb.
Invited on 95.7 The Game, the ESPN insider suggested a very, very high-end addition could be joining Stephen Curry as soon as summer 2026. Not just anyone. Spears named two players who make the whole league sit up: Giannis Antetokounmpo… or LeBron James.
He says Curry knows a major move could happen in the offseason.
“He knows whether it’s a Giannis, whether it’s a LeBron James, there’s going to be somebody next summer that’s going to join him, join Jimmy, join Draymond, assuming he’s still there”

And with the Warriors, that kind of scenario is never completely crazy.
Curry clear-eyed on this season, already looking ahead
Spears says Curry still wants to chase the playoffs this year. He’s not kidding himself about the team’s immediate chances, though.
The priority is elsewhere.
Curry likes what he’s seen from youngsters like Brandin Podziemski, Moses Moody and Gui Santos. They’re getting minutes, picking up responsibility, and being groomed as the base for what comes next.
The plan is twofold: stay competitive now while setting the stage for a big splash.
And that’s where it gets interesting.

Giannis or LeBron: the fantasy starts to look real
Spears says Curry knows a superstar could land next summer.
In his version, the new star would plug into a core of Curry, Jimmy Butler and possibly Draymond Green.
A Golden State Big Three 2.0.
Just saying those two names turns heads. Giannis is one of the league’s most dominant forces. LeBron, even approaching 42, can still flip a team into a title contender.
The very thought of pairing either with Curry has the Bay Area dreaming loud.
The Warriors still pull superstars
That kind of move might sound far-fetched elsewhere. In Golden State, history shows it can happen fast.
The franchise is one of the NBA’s biggest brands. Between the winning culture, the Bay lifestyle and Curry’s pull, the Warriors have already proven they can lure top names.
Kevin Durant is Exhibit A.
Spears thinks the front office could act quickly to get back into the title mix.
A financial puzzle that isn’t impossible
Money-wise, it’s not a total fantasy. In summer 2026 the Warriors shed Kristaps Porzingis’s roughly $30 million cap hit. If Draymond Green also left, that would free about another $27 million.
That opens a window for a major signing.
A one-year deal in the $55–60 million range for LeBron, for example, becomes plausible. One phone call to Rich Paul and talks can start.
In today’s NBA, big moves often begin with that call.
The ultimate dream for Warriors fans
For now it’s pure speculation. But picture it for a second and you see why Warriors fans are buzzing.
A trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and LeBron James. Or Curry linked with Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Either way, Golden State would instantly become a team the league would fear again.
And in the NBA, rumours today sometimes turn into trades tomorrow.
