The Minnesota Timberwolves (5th) host the Rockets (6th), who are breathing down their necks in the standings. Two of the league’s best defenses clash and both offenses have been coughing lately — forget run-and-gun. Expect a full-on lumberjack fight where every basket will be earned and priced accordingly.
Minnesota Timberwolves: pragmatism first 
In Minnesota it’s all about grit right now. Losing Anthony Edwards to injury has predictably gummed up Chris Finch’s offense. With their superstar out, the Wolves have had to get ugly. Case in point: that suffocating 102-92 win over Boston.
Julius Randle fizzled in that one (just 9 points, awful shooting), but X-factors like Jaden McDaniels and Bones Hyland put on capes and hit clutch shots. Still, against the Texas wall standing across the floor tonight, don’t bank on those role players pulling off the same offensive heist. Defensive rotation and rebounding will be Minnesota’s lifelines.
Houston Rockets: getting their shooting back 
On the Houston side the machine has slipped a gear recently. Fallen to 6th, the Rockets came off a frustrating loss to the Bulls (124-132) — a team with nothing to play for. The headline from that game? Reed Sheppard had a nightmare, tossing up 11 bricks from deep, while Jabari Smith Jr. pretty much ghosted the night.
Luckily Houston can fall back on their all-cover: an elite defense allowing just 109.1 points per game. With a packed paint, size at every spot and real mobility on switches, opponent drives often hit a brick wall. Against Wolves missing their top scorer, expect the Rockets to lock the paint and hunt perimeter shooters.
