The math is brutal for Manchester City. Score at least three on Tuesday and you might still see the Champions League quarter-finals.

A week on from the collapse in the first leg (3-0) at the Santiago Bernabéu, Pep Guardiola is left with one thing: uncertainty. In Monday’s press conference the Catalan was blunt. He admitted he had no special blueprint for this tie.

He kept bringing it back to one point: try. Guardiola insisted football throws up irrational comebacks now and then — even against a side that has lifted this trophy fifteen times.

Keep a cool head at the back

To pull this off the manager wants a flawless performance. He’s told his players not to rush in from the first whistle. Any comeback has to be built step by step.

The attack isn’t the worry. Guardiola still trusts his forwards to find cracks at home. The real concern sits at the other end.

The big question is the defence. They must keep attacking while stopping Madrid’s rapid counters. That’s a delicate balance to hold for 90 minutes.Bouton PenseBet

Preparation hit by tired legs

Despite the urgency, the staff hit the off switch. Players were ordered to rest on Monday. A full day off — a sharp departure from usual European-night prep.

Guardiola defended it by pointing to the heavy minutes load. The squad have already been through four brutal games since the start of March. Saturday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham drained the physical reserves.

The schedule offers no respite. Once this tie ends, attention flips straight to the League Cup final. That showdown with Arsenal is set for Sunday at Wembley.
