Los Angeles Lakers vs Atlanta Hawks: two opposite trajectories
The Lakers and Hawks meet in Los Angeles for their second clash of the season. L.A. need to reboot after a poor run. The Hawks want to keep rolling since Trae Young left. Don’t expect a defensive slugfest — both teams have shown plenty of holes at the back, over and over.
Los Angeles Lakers: stop this skid
Nothing’s going right for the Lakers. Three straight defeats, two of them versus teams they should’ve handled. Their last outing, yesterday in Sacramento, was ugly. Beyond the 112-124 loss to one of the league’s worst squads, it was the manner of it that stung. Abysmal threes (8/36 overall) and a defence like Swiss cheese. To make things worse, the Lakers are on a back-to-back tonight against the Hawks — a spot they’ve struggled in this year (2-4 with no rest days).
Luckily for Luka Doncic and co, they’re back at Crypto.com Arena, where they’ve won ten of 17 games so far. Austin Reaves will still be out, which forces JJ Redick to find options beyond “Luka Magic,” who was left hanging in the loss to the Kings. The Lakers can hope the crowd drags them back on track tonight — otherwise they’ll slip further down the West standings.
Atlanta Hawks: keep rolling
Unlike the Lakers, things are clicking in Atlanta. Despite the era change after Trae Young’s trade, the Hawks have strung together three straight wins and five wins in seven, nudging them back into the Eastern playoff picture. Even without Kristaps Porzingis, Atlanta can rely on Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and C.J. McCollum to fuel the league’s eighth-best offense (118.4 points per game).
The Hawks are one of the rare teams that play better on the road than at home — 13 of their 20 wins came away from Atlanta. The first meeting this season also went the Hawks’ way (122-102), thanks to a tidy defensive display. Another edge for the visitors: they’re not on a back-to-back, so they should be fresher heading into this one.
NBA pick Los Angeles Lakers vs Atlanta Hawks
Over 230,5 points
Hawks-Lakers this season pits the 23ème best defence against the 17ème best defence. Both teams give up more than 115 points per game on average. The Lakers will be desperate to respond in front of their crowd, where they’re usually strong, and the Hawks prefer to do their damage on the road. Despite big absences on both sides, neither attack should be held back by defenses that have been leaky all season. Expect an all-out offensive show.

First, a word on our picks
- What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We offer an opinion, a snapshot, never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the whole script flips.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks ‘‘obvious’’, nothing is. Yes — you can lose. It’s inevitable at some point.
- Best approach: be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And whatever you do, don’t chase losses — it rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it’s taking over your daily life, making you anxious or stressed, step away. If needed, speak to a specialist. That’s what they’re for.
- In the end, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept the risk exists and it won’t vanish, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with your country’s laws. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions don’t form a contract. They carry no legal weight. In short: you can’t use them to claim anything if a bet goes south.
Info can change
A pick is based on what we know when we write it. But a lineup (like the Lakers’) can change, a player can get injured, conditions can shift… and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We can’t be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, double-check that betting is legal where you are. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.
