Lecce – Roma: an already make-or-break trip for the Giallorossi
Beaten in their first match of 2026, Roma head to Lecce with their backs against the wall. Four defeats in five and the top four’s slipping away, while Lecce are still fighting just above the drop after nicking a point in Turin.
Roma: a troublesome start to the year
On his return to Bergamo as Roma coach, Gian Piero Gasperini wanted a different story. Already in trouble before Christmas, the Giallorossi had taken just three points from four matches, and the slump carried on: a rare Svilar mistake let Atalanta in, and Dybala fluffed Roma’s best chance.
Result: another 1-0 loss — the sixth by that score this season. Gasperini didn’t mince words, blaming his forwards’ lack of cutting edge.
With the attack running on fumes, transfer whispers around Raspadori and Zirkzee are getting louder.
But before buying reinforcements, Roma must stop the bleeding, with big games coming against Sassuolo, Torino… and a side they’ve usually bossed.
Lecce: a crucial point to keep hope alive
Lecce have beaten Roma just twice in 38 Serie A meetings and lost both matches last season. History isn’t on their side.
Still, the draw in Turin bought them breathing room.
After Juve’s quick equaliser, the Salentini hung on: a post, a penalty saved by Falcone, and only one shot on target — Banda’s superb goal.
Seven points from the last five games gives Lecce a bit of air in the survival fight.
Likely line-ups

Tip Lecce vs Roma
Roma to win
Both teams are sloppy in front of goal; one strike could decide it. Even in trouble, Roma have more individual quality and are likelier to edge it.
First, a word on our tips
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. We share a take, a reading of the moment, never a guarantee. Sport stays what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no bet without risk. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing truly is. Yes, that means you can lose. It’s inevitable sooner or later.
- Best to be sensible. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live. And don’t chase losses — it almost never ends well.
- Betting should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it takes over your life, annoys you or stresses you out, take a break. If needed, talk to a specialist organisation. That’s what they’re for.
- Ultimately, responsibility’s yours. Reading our stuff means accepting that risk exists and won’t disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is banned for minors and must follow your country’s laws. Gambling can spiral quickly (money lost, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

Info that changes
