Indian Wells WTA 1000: Diane Parry cuts through, earns main-draw spot

The California desert doesn’t tolerate hesitation. Hit hard, hit fast, don’t hang about. On Tuesday Diane Parry got that memo. Solid, focused, ruthless — she controlled Lulu Sun and punched her ticket into the Indian Wells main draw.

Clean. No wobble.

Complete control against Lulu Sun

World No.111, Parry arrived rolling after a tidy win over Elizabeth Mandlik. One last hurdle remained: Lulu Sun, ranked 100, gritty and used to qualies fights.

On court it was never close.

6-2, 6-3 in 1h05. No break points conceded. Not a single slip on serve. The Nice native dictated the tempo, mixing soft variations with sharp bursts, and never gave an opening for doubt. When she’s loose, Parry plays fluid, almost artistic tennis that smothers opponents quietly.

Her second win in three meetings with Sun. A deserved main-draw spot.

A familiar run in the desert

This isn’t Parry’s first rodeo at Indian Wells. In 2024 she made the fourth round and ran into Maria Sakkari. This latest qualification proves she loves these conditions — the high bounce, the odd desert rhythm.

She’ll learn her first-round opponent once the full draw is out. The main thing is done: she’s in for the season’s third WTA 1000.

Jeanjean wants to follow suit

Later tonight Léolia Jeanjean steps on court against Storm Hunter.

At 30, Jeanjean is chasing a third main-draw showing at a WTA 1000. The chance is there. The example’s been set.

Indian Wells often rewards the bold. Parry proved that. Now we wait to see if the French contingent keeps riding the California sand.
