Golden State Warriors – Boston Celtics: Porzingis’ debut against his old team?

The Warriors and Celtics meet for the first time this season. Ever since the 2022 Finals — the ones Golden State won — these fixtures have carried extra bite. Tonight there’s no Stephen Curry, no Jayson Tatum, and possibly the first appearance of Kristaps Porzingis against the club he left last summer in a trade to Atlanta.

Golden State Warriors: surviving without Steph

Five games without Stephen Curry now, and the Warriors will once again be missing their superstar against Boston. In those five games Steve Kerr’s side have scraped together two wins — credit where it’s due, but the offense has looked blunt without Curry. They haven’t topped 114 points in any of those outings.

Against Boston’s iron defense, Porzingis’ first game could matter a lot. The Latvian is listed as questionable. Apart from him, Golden State have no real scoring threat who can create consistent damage. They’ll need a huge collective shift to have a chance — the kind of team effort that beat Phoenix (101-97) and Memphis (114-113) just before the All-Star break.

Boston Celtics: a must-win on the road

The Celtics are swimming in good news right now. A possible Tatum return, second place in the East and six wins in seven — not bad. This game kicks off a Western road trip where they’ll face the Lakers, Suns and Nuggets before heading back to TD Garden to play the Nets.

Boston will be almost at full strength (only Jayson Tatum absent) and their defense stays rock-solid. Joe Mazzula’s team concede just 108.4 points per game, second-best in the league. Add Jaylen Brown playing at an MVP level and you’ve got a serious title contender. Facing a weakened Warriors side, this should be routine.

NBA Pick Golden State Warriors vs Boston Celtics

Celtics to win by 3 points or more

The Warriors turn up weakened, the Celtics are flying. Both teams should be fresh, but the gap in firepower will show on the court. Boston have won 17 of 27 road games this season — a solid reason to expect a comfortable Celtics win.

First, a word about our picks

  • What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. It’s an opinion, a snapshot of what looks likely at the time, not a guarantee. Sport is unpredictable. A red card, a late injury, a freak play… and everything changes.
  • Let’s be blunt: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, it rarely is. Yes, you can lose. You will, at times.
  • Bet sensibly. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And don’t chase losses — that’s how things spiral.
  • Betting should be entertainment, not a job or a wage. If it starts to take over, makes you anxious or stressed, step back. If needed, speak to a specialist. That’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept the risk exists and it won’t disappear, even with the smartest analysis.
  • Essential reminder: betting is prohibited for minors and must follow your local laws. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family strain, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No legal commitment from us

Our picks are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. In short: you can’t rely on them to make a legal claim if a bet loses.

Information can change

A pick is based on what we know when we write it. Between then and tip-off, a lineup can change (like with the Warriors), a player can get hurt, conditions can shift… and the analysis can become outdated. We can’t be held responsible for that.

Your role

Before you bet, check that gambling is legal where you live. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.
