Girona – Athletic Bilbao: Lions head to Montilivi 
This Saturday afternoon Montilivi hosts a high-strung La Liga clash. Girona (15th) are scrapping to avoid the drop, while Athletic Bilbao (10th) need to kickstart their season to keep European hopes alive.
Girona, a defence leaking like a sieve 
They’re not out of the woods. On 31 points and only six clear of the drop zone (Mallorca, 18th), Michel’s men still feel the heat. Their big problem this season? A back line in crisis — 43 goals conceded and counting.
Form’s poor. One win in seven league games, that cheeky victory at Barcelona in mid-February aside. Fresh from a laboured 1-1 with Levante, Girona must tighten up at home. They’ve picked up just 16 points from 13 home matches — the third-worst home record in the league. Time to start showing some bite.
Athletic Bilbao nursing a hangover 
Bilbao are grim-faced. Ernesto Valverde’s side have taken two heavy blows: a cruel exit in the Copa del Rey semi to Real Sociedad, then a narrow 1-0 league loss to FC Barcelona.
Sitting 10th, they’ve effectively written off the top four (19 points adrift) but still have sixth — and Europe — in their sights, five points behind Celta Vigo. Trouble is, trips to Catalonia haven’t been kind. Believe it or not, Athletic have won at Girona only once (March 2019) and lost here 2-1 last season. This won’t be easy.
