Gabon – Ivory Coast: pride on one side, a target on the other
Wednesday night Gabon play their last match of the Africa Cup of Nations against Ivory Coast. Already knocked out after two defeats, Gabon have nothing left to play for in the table — just pride. The Elephants, meanwhile, still need to lock down their final standing in a brutally tight Group F.
Gabon: an AFCON that fizzled out
Touted as dangerous outsiders before the tournament, Gabon have packed up early. Beaten by Cameroon, then blown away by Mozambique in a sensational — and fatal — game, Thierry Mouyouma’s men saw their chances die off too soon.
Against the Mambas Gabon showed fight. They clawed back several times but never sealed an equaliser. Down 2-0 then 3-1, the Panthers paid for defensive gaps and a lack of composure at decisive moments.
Two losses from two. A hostile group. Gabon can’t sneak through, not even as one of the best third-placed teams. This final fixture is about pride. Maybe a last curtain call for some senior players.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, on the scoresheet against Mozambique, could be lining up one of his last AFCON appearances. Denis Bouanga is still quiet in this edition and will be desperate to end on a brighter note.
Ivory Coast: stay solid and shoot for top spot
The reigning African champions come into this final group game in a far healthier spot. Still unbeaten, the Elephants have shown collective steel, even if the draw with Cameroon wasn’t perfect.
They haven’t lost an official match in over a year. Defensive discipline is their trademark. They’ve given away very few chances this tournament.
Facing an already-eliminated opponent is a tidy chance to lock down top spot, depending on the other result. Emerse Faé should pick a competitive lineup while managing minutes.
Amad Diallo has been Ivory Coast’s big man so far. A scorer in both opening rounds, the Manchester United winger is brimming with confidence and can still make the difference. Around him the attack is deep — Zaha, Guessand or Bayo all provide options.
Probable lineups
Gabon : Mbaba ; Onfia, Moucketou-Moussounda, Lemina, Ekomie ; Kanga, N’Dong ; Babicka, Poko, Bouanga ; Aubameyang
Ivory Coast : Y. Fofana ; Doué, Kossounou, Ndicka, Konan ; Kessié, Sangaré, S. Fofana ; Diallo, Bayo, Zaha

- Amad Diallo is the main attacking threat for Ivory Coast.
Football Prediction Gabon vs Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast win
Gabon will want to finish on a high. They’ll try. It probably won’t be enough. Ivory Coast’s experience and defensive solidity should tip the balance. They can win without breaking a sweat and likely finish top of the group.
First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds is analysis—nothing more. We give an opinion, a snapshot read of the moment, not a guarantee. Sport is unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and everything changes.
- Let’s be blunt: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it rarely is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s inevitable at some point.
- Best practice is to be sensible. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase losses — it never ends well.
- Betting should stay a pastime, not a job or income source. If it’s taking over your life, making you anxious or stressed, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist organisation. That’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept the risk exists and won’t vanish, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with your country’s law. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family tensions, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions aren’t a contract. They carry no legal weight. In short: you can’t rely on them to claim anything if a bet fails.
Info that changes
A prediction is based on what we know when we write it. But a lineup can change, a player can get injured, the weather can turn… and the analysis gets outdated fast. We can’t be held responsible for that.
