Crystal Palace – Aston Villa: a tricky trip for the Villans
Aston Villa head to Selhurst Park wanting to end a run that’s starting to drag against Crystal Palace. The Eagles, beaten at Newcastle, need a breather at home, while the Villans still openly chase a spot in the Champions League.
Crystal Palace: a messy start to the year
After an encouraging December, Palace have flat-lined. Since that three-win run they haven’t won and are now seven matches without a victory.
The start of 2026 hasn’t helped: a draw with Fulham, then a predictable loss at Newcastle where Thiaw and Bruno Guimarães made the difference.
Selhurst Park: just two wins in ten Premier League games — a record that largely explains their current 14th place.
Jean-Philippe Mateta is carrying the attack almost single-handed with eight goals, but Palace tried to respond by signing Brennan Johnson for a club-record fee. We’ll see if that’s enough to kick the machine back into life.
Aston Villa: solid momentum despite the Arsenal setback
While others wobble, Villa keep to Unai Emery’s plan.
The heavy defeat to Arsenal ended an impressive 11-game winning streak, but Villa hit back straight away with a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest.
Ollie Watkins, briefly quiet, has come back into the spotlight with four goals in his last three matches.
Manchester City’s draw with Chelsea allowed Villa to close the gap on the Citizens — they’re level with City and six points behind Arsenal.
One downside: Palace remain a bogey team. Villa haven’t beaten the Eagles in six meetings.
Probable lineups
Crystal Palace :
Henderson ; Canvot, Lacroix, Guehi ; Rodney, Wharton, Hughes, Mitchell ; Johnson, Pino ; Mateta
Aston Villa :
Martinez ; Cash, Konsa, Lindelof, Maatsen ; Kamara, Tielemans ; McGinn, Rogers, Buendia ; Watkins
What to take away
- Crystal Palace are winless in seven.
- Aston Villa have won 11 of their last 12 matches in all competitions.
- Villa haven’t beaten Palace in six meetings.
- Ollie Watkins is red-hot in front of goal.

Prediction Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa
Aston Villa to win
Even if Selhurst Park is never an easy trip, Villa arrive with more certainty and far better momentum. Palace have caused Villa problems before, but current form suggests Palace’s drought could continue.
First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. We give an opinion, a snapshot read, not a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and everything changes.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no bet without risk. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing truly is. Yes, you can lose. It’s inevitable sooner or later.
- Best to be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And don’t chase losses — it rarely ends well.
- Betting should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it’s taking over your life, annoying you or stressing you out, take a break. If needed, talk to a specialist organisation. That’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting the risk exists and won’t disappear, even with the best analysis.
- Important reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must follow your country’s laws. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions aren’t a contract. They carry no legal weight. In plain terms: you can’t rely on them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Information can change
A prediction is based on what we know when we write it. But a team lineup (like Crystal Palace’s) can change, a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis can be outdated fast. We can’t be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before betting, just check that gambling is legal where you live. If it’s not, that’s on you, not us.
