Celta Vigo – Alavés: Europe or survival at the Balaídos
Celta Vigo (6th), hot in the race for Europe, host Alavés (17th), who are fighting desperately to avoid the drop as the season winds down.
Celta on a high
Galicia is buzzing. On Thursday Claudio Giráldez’s side sent the Balaídos wild by beating Olympique Lyonnais 2-0 to reach the Europa League quarter-finals. A lovely glow — but it doesn’t erase the league grind.
Sitting sixth looks neat on paper, yet their home form has been hit-and-miss. Just 17 points collected at home and a recent 2-1 stumble against Real Madrid leave questions about their authority at the Balaídos. To keep Real Sociedad behind them, Celta must shake off European fatigue, find some spark and score the goals that calm the crowd.
Alavés flirting with the drop
At the other end it’s full-on panic. Alavés have a tiny two-point cushion above the relegation zone and momentum has gone missing. Quique Sánchez Flores arrived in early March but hasn’t sparked a real turnround — one point from two games — though the 1-1 draw with Villarreal did lift spirits a touch.
Their glaring weakness? Away games. The Basques have the fourth-worst record on the road and tend to get torn apart away from Mendizorroza. Knowing Celta might be heavy-legged after European exertions, Alavés will likely sit deep early, bend but not break, and hope to nick a perfect smash-and-grab on the counter.
Likely lineups
Celta Vigo : Radu ; Alonso, Starfelt, Rodriguez ; Nunez, Mingueza, Sotelo, Alvarez ; Aspas, Iglesias, Jutgla
Alavés : Sivera ; Tenaglia, Parada, Pacheco ; Perez, Ibanez, Blanco, Alena, Jonny ; Martinez, Boye
Football Prediction Celta Vigo vs Alavés
Celta Vigo to win
Fitness and freshness are the only real question marks after Celta emptied the tank on Thursday in the Europa League.
Still, the momentum is with the Galicians. Against an Alavés side that is shaky and struggles away from home, Celta’s technical edge should tell. Riding the high of European qualification and desperate to cement sixth place, Celta Vigo should impose themselves and pick up the three points.

First, a word about our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. We give an opinion, a snapshot of the moment, not a guarantee. Sport is unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the script can flip.
- Let’s be clear: there is no bet without risk. Even when something looks obvious, it rarely is. Yes, you can lose. At some point you probably will.
- Best advice: be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And don’t chase losses — it rarely ends well.
- Betting should be a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts to take over your life, annoys you or stresses you out, take a break. If needed, talk to a specialist organization — that’s what they’re for.
- Ultimately, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept that risk exists and it won’t disappear, even with the best analysis.
- Important reminder: betting is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family tensions, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No liability from us
Our predictions do not form a contract. They carry no legal weight. In short: you can’t rely on them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Information can change
A prediction is based on what we know when we write it. Team sheets change, players get injured, the weather can turn… and the analysis can become outdated quickly. We can’t be held responsible for that.
Your role
