Benin – Botswana: do-or-die for survival in Group D  Coupe d'Afrique des nations de football 2025 — Wikipédia

Both beaten in their openers, Benin and Botswana meet on Saturday at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah under maximum pressure. One more slip and their hopes of reaching the knockout stage get seriously complicated.

Benin didn’t totally fail against DR Congo in their opener. The Cheetahs showed more character than recent form suggested, even if the result went against them. The early goal they conceded hit them hard, and Bakambu’s equaliser was wiped out after a VAR check.

That defeat extends a worrying run: three straight losses, no goals scored, and a defence being tested. Gernot Rohr can’t afford another mistake now. Another loss would all but kill Benin’s chances — this is their easiest game in the group before a final date with Senegal.

The return of several suspended players is perfectly timed. Steve Mounie and Andreas Hountondji should add more presence up front, while the backline regains a bit of stability.

For Botswana the climb looks even steeper. The Zebras held out for a long time against Senegal before conceding just before the break, then slowly fell apart. The 3-0 final score reflected the gap against one of the tournament favourites.

Recent numbers don’t do Morena Ramoreboli’s men any favours. The team haven’t won in months and keep conceding goals, which scuppers any real ambition in such a tough group. Painful memories of heavy group defeats don’t help morale either.

Still, goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko produced a number of fine saves in the first game and gives a reason to hope. Up front, though, the lack of cutting edge is glaring, and there aren’t obvious solutions to unlock matches.

Probable line-ups

Benin : Dandjinou ; Tijani, Verdon, Roche, Moumini ; Ouorou, Dodo, Imourane, Kiki ; Mounie, Olaitan

Botswana : Phoko ; Johnson, Ditlhokwe, Gaolaolwe, Velaphi ; Ditsele ; Seakanyeng, Mohutsiwa, Cooper, Orebonye ; Kebatho

Key takeaways

  • Both teams are already playing for their tournament lives.
  • Benin get back several key starters.
  • Botswana are on a long winless run.
  • Expect a tight, cagey affair.

Football Prediction Benin vs Botswana

Benin to win

Under maximum pressure, Benin’s experience and squad depth could make the difference. The return of key men and the absolute need to win should see the Cheetahs nick it, probably by a narrow margin, against a brave but blunt Botswana.

First, a word on our predictions

  • What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. We share an opinion, a reading of the moment, not a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the script flips.
  • Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, it rarely is. Yes, that means you can lose. It’s unavoidable at some point.
  • Best policy: be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And don’t chase losses — it seldom ends well.
  • Betting should stay a pastime, not a job or a source of income. If it’s taking over your life, annoying you or stressing you out, take a break. If needed, speak to a specialist organisation. That’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting the risk exists and won’t disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
  • Important reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money losses, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions aren’t a contract. They have no legal weight. In short: you can’t rely on them to claim anything if a bet loses.

Information is fluid

A prediction rests on what we know when we write it. But between then and kick-off a team sheet can change, a player can get injured, the weather can turn… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We can’t be held responsible for that.

Your role

Before betting, just check that it’s legal where you live. If it’s not, that’s your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling comes first

We won’t repeat it enough: gamble in moderation. If you struggle to stay in control, don’t wait to get help. We can’t be held responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the info published on the site.
