ATP Indian Wells: Sinner dominates Zverev, Medvedev knocks out Alcaraz to reach final

The California desert is getting a proper final. Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev will meet for the Indian Wells Masters 1000 title after two semifinals that confirmed both men are in top form. The Italian bossed Alexander Zverev without breaking a sweat, while the Russian pulled off a big scalp by ending Carlos Alcaraz’s unbeaten run in 2026.

This one has punch. And whatever happens, the tournament will crown a first-time champion.

Sinner too solid for Zverev

Jannik Sinner kept rolling, showing ruthless control. Facing Alexander Zverev in the semi, the world No.2 left the German with almost no chance.

From the first games Sinner grabbed the match by the throat and broke early. Unplayable on first serve — winning 92% of those points — he wrapped up the first set 6-2 in just thirty minutes.

The second set was tighter. Zverev had a break point at 3-2 but couldn’t take it. He paid for that miss straight away.

Sinner broke right after and closed it out 6-2, 6-4 in 1h22, booking his first-ever Indian Wells final.

Zverev still stuck against the top guys

Frustration just keeps piling up for Alexander Zverev. The German has now lost eleven straight matches against opponents ranked above him.

Six of those losses came against Sinner, four against Carlos Alcaraz and one against Daniil Medvedev. It’s a stark stat — Zverev struggles to hang with the two players currently running the tour.

After this exit he’ll head to Miami for the second leg of the Sunshine Double.

Medvedev ends Alcaraz’s streak

In the other semi, Daniil Medvedev landed a massive blow. The Russian beat Carlos Alcaraz 6-3, 7-6, stopping the Spaniard’s 16-match winning streak this season.

Medvedev was steady in rallies and aggressive when it mattered, catching the world No.1 off guard early. A mid-first-set break gave him control.

Alcaraz tried to fight back in the second, but Medvedev kept his nerve in the big moments. After saving two set points, he finished it in the tiebreak.

A big win for Medvedev — he hadn’t beaten Alcaraz since 2023.

A first-time final in the California desert

So the final will be Jannik Sinner versus Daniil Medvedev, two players who know each other inside out. Sinner edges their head-to-head 8-7.

Sinner arrives brimming with confidence after a rock-solid run. But he knows Medvedev is back to a dangerous level too.

Even Sinner admitted it ahead of the final.

He reckons the Russian has found balance again — a big serve, a punishing return and smarter aggression.

On Sunday, under the desert sun, one thing will be guaranteed.

The Indian Wells Masters 1000 will have a new king.
